Estimating:

How much Quality Alaskan Finish do I need?

Each gallon covers 250 sq. ft., so measure the square footage of the building and find the area.
The procedure for estimating the amount of product for a building is as follows...
Height times Width on all four sides of the building, divided by 250 (sq. ft.) per gallon. This will give you the amount of gallons necessary for one coat.
*Don't forget to measure fascia and eves if you are intending to apply product to them.

(side 1. H x W) + (side 2. H x W) + (side 3. H x W) + (side 4. H x W) =________sq. ft.

For gable ends multiply width times height divided by two. This will give you the square footage. W x H / 2=_______ sq. ft.

Add sides of building and gables end = _________ total sq. ft.

Divide the total Area by 250 ft. per gallon.=__________ x 4 coats=_______ total gallons.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Do I exclude the windows and doors on exterior perimeter of my building?
The answer is no. Measure your walls as a solid wall and this allows for a buffer in amount of product needed.
  2. Are four coats necessary?
Applying a four-coat finish is critical. The 1st coat will penetrate deep into the logs and will look dry, appearing almost gone. This coat will provide deep penetration and bring out the natural color of the grains and knots in the wood. The 2nd coat will also penetrate into the wood, but will begin to show on the outer surface. The 3rd coat will blend all of the natural colors in the wood and remain on the outer surface providing UV protection while bring out the natural beauty of the wood. Finally the 4th coat blends everything together while giving that added protection needed. The 4th coat also enhances the beautiful luster, and does not cover up the natural beauty of the wood itself.
Note: The 1st coat will use a greater amount of product than the additional coats; each coat uses less product than the previous coat. The 4th coat will use the least amount of product and apply much faster than the pervious coats.
  3. Can I spray this product?
The answer is no. Quality Alaskan Finishes is designed specifically for roller and back brush application. Spraying this product will not work. Do Not Spray This Product.
